Create an Outdoor Living Space on a Budget

With families having busier schedules than ever, finding quality time to spend together is challenging. Creating a backyard living area not only combines the comforts of inside with the fun of outside, it creates a great space for families to gather. Outdoor living areas are becoming extremely popular, especially in the DFW area. Homeowners are converting their deck and patio areas into small scale or full scale dining and entertaining areas. You can do this too, even with a small budget. There are three basics that any outdoor living area needs: comfortable seating, a place to cook, and a dining area. First, decide what your budget is for your outdoor living space. There are ways to accomplish all three of these aspects on virtually any budget.

Comfortable Seating Area

Start from the ground for your seating area. Since you won’t want your lawn to be the foundation of your outdoor living area, there are many options from cheap to extravagant for a patio area. Lifetime Fence & Roofing offers many options for patios (see our patio options here:) If you are a DIYer, pavers can be relatively inexpensive, and if installed correctly, an excellent choice for your patio. (See insructions for installing pavers here:)

The downside is that it will only cover your seating area, and won’t offer shade for the cooking or other areas. For more shade and comfort, consider having an arbor or pergola installed, or even a patio cover to provide the most comfort and protection from weather to your patio and furniture.

If you are on a tight budget, this is one of the places where you can save a lot on the total cost of your outdoor living space. Used patio furniture in excellent condition can be found at online resale sites such as craigslist or 5 miles. Replacing the old weathered cushions on patio furniture that is in otherwise good condition can make it look brand new. If you are the type of person who likes to buildcheap outdoor living area ideas outdoor kitchen ideas things, using pallets to build your own patio benches is a great way to customize your outdoor living area, and add your own personal touch! Cooking/ Food Prep Area

The great thing about having an outdoor kitchen area is that you can be outside with your guests during backyard get-togethers, rather than being in the kitchen preparing food or constantly making trips inside. Elaborate and extravagant outdoor kitchens are becoming increasingly popular, complete with granite counter tops, cooktop, oven, mini-fridge, and beverage bar. If that is not in the budget for you (did i mention we offer financing?), having the traditional barbecue grill and a cooler outside will still allow you to prepare food for your guests while enjoying their company. And again, if you are a DIYer, there are some pretty amazing things you can do with pallets or old fence materials to create a food prep table and a cooler stand.

Dining Area

What makes it difficult to enjoy a meal outdoors is bugs becoming a nuisance or wind blowing away paper plates and napkins. Tiki torches with citronella can help deter bugs and add to your landscaping. Avoiding paper plates, or using weighted paper plate holders can make the wind less of a problem.
