What can your old fence become?

Reclaimed wood instantly warms up a room, giving it a homey, historic feel. As fences age, they start to fall apart and generally look pretty decrepit. Even boards that are very old can be in pretty good shape, have lots of integrity left, andold fence panels can be reused for many creative projects. Whether kept partially recognizable in their original form or repurposed into something altogether new, old fence material can add a touch of interest when used in ways that are different then what you would expect.

Tips for Reusing Fence Panels:old fence panel project ideas

* Do not use salvaged wood that shows any signs of damage from termites or powder post beetles. You do not want to risk bringing these critters into your shop or home.

* Inspect the wood carefully for any foreign objects, and use a stud finder to find all of the nails and screws which can damage cutting edges and cause injuries.

* Thoroughly clean pieces of salvaged wood with a paint scraper or a stiff bristle brush to remove any dirt or loose paint.
